TitleLetter from A [Arthur] Hutchinson, Pembroke College, Cambridge, to [Francis Henry] Neville
CreatorHutchinson; Arthur (1866-1937); British mineralogist
RecipientNeville; Francis Henry (1847-1915); British metallurgist
Date24 July 1908
DescriptionHe responds to Neville's request for his experiences of [Henry John Horstman] Fenton. Hutchinson attended his lectures 22 years ago and found then helpful and stimulating, while Fenton himself was always ready to discuss laboratory problems, if people were not overcome by his 'formidable manner', and the same would be true now. Hutchinson describes his exeriences with Fenron since acting as a junior demonstrator: he was a careful and fair examiner and Hutchinson found no traces of obstinancy in him, which he had been led to fear. He would be a difficult subordinate, but as Head, those under him would likely share Hutchinson's experiences. Any faults of manner are due to a mixture of pride and shyness.
