Title | Letter from C [Charles] Chree, 25 Mount Ararat Road, Richmond, Surrey, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Chree; Charles (1860-1928); British physicist |
Recipient | Larmor; Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 29 February 1908 |
Description | Confirms that the Antarctic data will form part of Chree's presidential address [for the Physical Society of London]. He notes that he is not intending to publish it in the 'Philosophical Transactions', only in the 'Proceedings of the Physical Society', but considers what to publish in 'Philosophical Transactions' instead. He then asks for Larmor's advice on 'whether it would be a kind or an unkind act' to encourage Professor [Frank] Morley to stand again for a Royal Society fellowship, noting that given his success in the US, it could be 'considerably to his disadvantage if the Americans took to noticing that he was being passed over repeatedly whilst much younger men - whose fame has hardly perhaps permeated America - have been selected'.
