| Title | Letter from A [Andrew] Gray, Glasgow, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Gray; Andrew (1847-1925); British physicist |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 14 October 1901 |
| Description | The echelon and magnet are being put into order for systematic observation and the instrument promises to be of great power. They tried helium in order to adjust it, and with low field separation got a bright yellow line into a triplet, its companion into a quadruplet, and he describes line polarization. He will have to wait some time for a micrometer eyepiece for exact measurements, but he will get photographs for comparisons. Hilger is tiresome about what is available as accessories. Gray will push on but would be glad to know what other questions they might try to answer, and he will not lose sight of cathode ray work. The proofs of the Section A group were disappointing. |
