Creator | Huggins; Margaret Lindsay (1848 - 1915); Née; Murray; wife of William Huggins FRS; Irish-English astronomer; spectroscopist |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); British theoretical physicist |
Date | 9 November 1910 |
Description | Huggins continues to discuss the perceived errors made by [Hugh Frank] Newall in his recent arcticle, concerning William Huggins. Margaret Huggins feels she cannot allow them to 'pass unchallenged'. Huggins rejects the idea of William Huggins 'recieving theoretical assistance from Clerk Maxwell', and feels very strongly that she must carry out her duty in rectifying the errors. She has written to Newall accordingly. Huggins then discusses a visit from George [Ellery] Hale, which she greatly appreciated, and notes that she is giving to particular visitors keepsakes from William Huggins. She is also grateful for the Royal Society for their gift of a portrait of William Huggins to her, as it is 'a daily comfort'. |
