Creator | Huggins; Margaret Lindsay (1848 - 1915); Née; Murray; wife of William Huggins FRS; Irish-English astronomer; spectroscopist |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); British theoretical physicist |
Date | 4 December 1910 |
Description | Huggins shares an update on Dr [George Ellery?] Hale's family. She is 'truly sorry that Italy has been decided on, for I can't help believing that Egypt would be far better for him', and that 'his wife is greatly to be felt for. And then the children!'. She states that she is also anxious for Professor [Hugh Frank] Newall, as he 'seems to [Huggins] to be positively working for a break-down'. She fears he is overworked and is concerned for Mrs Newall. She then notes that she is sending to Larmor the keepsake ring that belonged to Sir William Huggins, chosen for Larmor because of how much his friendship was valued. She notes, 'I am sure he would have left [the ring] to his own son - if God had given him one'. She then explains the provenance of the ring and its significance for the Huggins family. |
