Title | Letter from Margaret Lindsay Huggins, 90 Upper Tulse Hill, S W [South West], to Sir Joseph [Larmor] |
Creator | Huggins; Margaret Lindsay (1848 - 1915); Née; Murray; wife of William Huggins FRS; Irish-English astronomer; spectroscopist |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); British theoretical physicist |
Date | 18 January 1911 |
Description | She notes that it would be very agreeable to her if Dr [Arthur] Schuster were to undertake the Royal Society Notice, if this is what Larmor wishes also. She notes that Sir William [Huggins] had a 'warn affection for Dr Schuster' and watched his career 'with Fatherly interest'. Huggins then updates Larmor on the outcome of a 'sad misunderstanding' between William and Margaret Huggins and James Dewar and his wife [Helen Rose Dewar], noting her distress over the matter as 'neither of us ever had trouble with friends - until that cloud came'. However, last year the friendship was reconciled, and Huggins notes that 'No friends have been kinder to me in my sorrow, than the Dewars'. She ends by noting her interest in Dr [Georges] Dreyer's work, and in Larmor's response regarding the [William] Herschel matters. |
