Title | Letter from Margaret Lindsay Huggins, 90 Upper Tulse Hill, S W [South West], to Sir Joseph Larmor |
Creator | Huggins; Margaret Lindsay (1848 - 1915); Née; Murray; wife of William Huggins FRS; Irish-English astronomer; spectroscopist |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); British theoretical physicist |
Date | 22 May 1912 |
Description | Huggins discusses a gift for Larmor of a porcelain owl. She then notes that she is glad that he has composed a label to attach to the cover of the box of Frauenhofer's Diffraction Apparatus. She thinks this a very valuable possession. She then congratulates him on the edition of 'Sir W Herschel's Collected Papers' and praises the work of Dreyer, but dislikes the 'unpleasing' shade of blue chosen for the sides of the volumes. She discusses that many years ago she had found information about Sir William Herschel in London and made notes, now informing Larmor that she means to publish it, and feels it will be better than that of Dr Dreyer's, whose work she describes as 'a little dry'. She describes the work of Sir George Darwin in the same way. She is continuing to work on her 'Life' of Sir William Huggins and asks for 'personal impressions and rememberances', from Larmor and from other friends. |
