CreatorHuggins; Margaret Lindsay (1848 - 1915); Née; Murray; wife of William Huggins FRS; Irish-English astronomer; spectroscopist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); British theoretical physicist
Date11 November 1913
DescriptionHuggins wishes to send Larmor a copy of a book he will enjoy. She feels that Mr Maunder has done well with the book, and is very glad that the work of her late husband Sir William Huggins has been written about in one volume. Huggins has been experiencing illness and grief, but is glad she has moved to her new residence, as the change of surroundings, the scenery, and the proximity to her friends has 'brought back something of Hope to my life'. She reflects on her loss, feeling that 'Sorrow is surely meant to do us good; to make us better & wiser; not to make us miserable'. She then describes a recent trip to Durham and to Lindisfarne. She is happy that the Schusters have moved near London. She notes her interest in the Royal Society and the new election of Sir W [William] Crookes as President.
