Date16 December 1906
DescriptionHuggins commences with the news that 'if [William] Ramsay is not deceived, he had got from the Ra emanation the chief line of Nebulium', commenting that '42 years since in the dicovery of these bright lines I pierced the seret of the Nebulae'. He argued with [William James Stewart] Lockyer over the bright line, who called it 'coincident with the edge of the Magnesium band!'. Ramsay is now following up with this experiment to confirm his results. He discusses Mira Ceti, which is now approaching its maxiumum, and a photograph of its spectrum sent from Stoneyhurst which shows no change in its spectrum since 1897. He updates Larmor that [Hugh Frank] Newall was chosen as the President of the Royal Astronomical Society for the next year.
