Description | In speaking of applying [Gaspard] Monge's treatment to the sections on the cone, he was referring to his 'Geometrie Descriptive', in which he systematised investigation of the properties of a figure in space by orthogonal projection, which he describes. Monge's methods have been little used in England in secondary schools. He encloses a large diagram treating a section of cone by his method, and he expands upon the drawing [which is present] and upon Monge's methodology. He agrees about Anharmonic ratio, but thinks Taylor regards it as beyond the range of an elementary book, although Langley considers it should come into a section on projection. He discusses other content including Mobius, and some comments on paragraphs and stereoplates [of a book?]. He concludes by noting 'a pretty example' of [Karl] von Staudt's theorem which has come to his attention and he expands upon this. |
