DescriptionHe has sent in his application to the Under-Secretary, Dublin Castle; he forgot to whom it shoudl be sent and could not find the advertisement at the German Club. He received a testimonial from Taylor on Saturday and forwarded a written copy. Taylor has written to say that he is glad that Alexander's fellowship is a certainty; Alexander replied asking if a dissertation was necessary. He wonders if he should send testimonials to all Arts professor at Cork, as he has plenty. W.P. Sinclair has written to Balfour urging Alexander's appointment, although he fears that the appointment may lie with the Lord Lieutenant. He wonders if any Conservative influence would be possible. He thanks his brother, wondering if he should get a new edition of Casey. He received Joseph's note and dicusses the cones problem. He sees from The Guardian that over 70 foreign savants may visit the British Association's Manchester meeting; the exhibition was visited by 41,000 people on Saturday.
