Title | Letter from Alex [Alexander] Larmor, 1 Hughenden Terrace, Belfast, to Joseph [Larmor] |
Creator | Larmor; Alexander (d.1936); Irish mathematician and science educator |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 28 September |
Description | A letter has arived from Cunningham & Company with an enclosed note; he sent it on, keeping the contract note. He asks when it will be time to look after the Cambridge testimonials. Alexander has been working on diffraction again, and relays his results; discussing sets of fringes on razor blades and the blade of a knife. He would like a concave mirror broader than a razor blade, and an account of Rowland's reflection gratings. Since writing the above he has used the blade of a fruit knife to obtain a set of coloured bands in the middle of an illuminated field with none at the ends. |
