| Description | It is a relief to hear that Larmor is puzzled by 'the Einstein enthusiasts'. He was very near to al that matters in Relativity in chapter 11 of 'Aether and Matter' and he wonders if Larmor was 'inclined to assimilate the lot'. Rayleigh rebelled at 'the 1905 business' and he would have rebelled more at 'these 1915 inventions', which are all 'fearfully ingenious'. Lodge was att he Royal Astronomical Society when Larmor's parable was read, but no-one could take it in at the time. At the dinner, R.A. [Ralph Allan] Sampson suggested an experiment sendign wireless waves round the Earth in either direction, but the result woudl be undetectable unless the rotation could be stopped or reversed. Lodge reminds Larmor of his 1897 seuggested experiment, sending him a copy [not present]. |
