Title | Letter from F G [Frederick George] Kenyon, British Museum, London, to Sir Joseph Larmor |
Creator | Kenyon; Sir Frederick George (1863-1952); British Greek and biblical scholar and museum director |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 30 April 1916 |
Description | He apologises for the late reply to Larmor and agrees with his criticism of one paragraph in the draft letter [to 'The Times']. He would like to include a specific mention of mental training, emphasising also the importance of knowledge. If he modifies it in that way, he asks if Larmor would allow his name to be used as being sympathetic to the objectives involved, if not agreeing with every point. Professor [William] Bateson has indicated such qualified support. He feels it should be possible to unite humanities and natural sciences in understanding of the general issue. He is afraid of a wrangle between the extremities in classics and science which would do harm, and wonders if universities could guide the government's direction. |
