TitleLetter from Horace Lamb, 6 Wilbraham Road, Fallowfield, Manchester, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorLamb; Sir Horace (1849-1934); British mathematician
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date5 May 1909
DescriptionLamb has handed to [John Edensor?] Littlewood the instructions for papers, describing the paper he is working on and Lamb's suggestion for it. He is working on diffraction by a sphere and this makes Lamb doubtful about submitting [John William] Nicholson's paper to him [for refereeing]. Poincare's publication is 'very scrappy' and he discusses who should have credit between 'N' and 'P.' He has spoken to Littlewood about it and Littlewood claims the results in his paper submitted are not altogether new, but had not been properly established before, and Lamb thinks this 'very likely'. Lamb would suggest that Nicholson should reduce his paper by half, were he not 'an impractical person in the literary aspect'.
