Title | Copy letter from P [Peter] Chalmers Mitchell, Zoological Society of London, 3 Hanover Square, London, to H E [Henry Edward] Armstrong, International Catalogue of Scientific Literature, 34-35 Southampton Street |
Creator | Mitchell; Sir Peter Chalmers (1864-1945); British zoologist |
Recipient | Armstrong; Henry Edward (1848-1937); British chemist and educational reformer |
Date | 21 December 1904 |
Description | Recording an unofficial conversation between the two, weighing the problems of having duplicating cataloguing of zoological literature, and the benefits of a joint effort. The Zoological record is at 40 volumes, serving the needs of zoologists and at great expense. He describes how each catalogue is printed, and the variations between the two approaches. It may be possible to appoint the Zoological Record Committee to act as referee for the forthcoming zoology volumes of the International Catalogue, receiving slips of international journals from the Central Bureau. At the end of five years, they would revert to producing the Record. He thinks they should aim to produce more detailed guidelines, for submission by the Zoological Society to the Royal Society, and thence to the International Convention. |
