TitleLetter from Louis T [Trenchard] More, 315 Pike Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, to Sir Joseph Larmor, Cambridge
CreatorMore; Louis Trenchard (1870-1944); American physicist and biographer
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date12 August 1915
DescriptionHe has asked his publisher to send Larmor a copy of More's book ['The Limitations of Science'] the matter of whcih is the result of his Cambridge year. The first two chapters contain Larmor's philosophy on aether and matter as the only clear expressionof modern ideas. He differs from Larmor in thinking that hypotheses do more harm than good. He thinks that Larmor's energies must be absorbed by the war, and those in America are hoping that England wins out. He asks if Larmor recalls how they felt about German science and scholarship; More hated it then, thinking it arrogant.
