Title | Letter from H F N [Hugh Frank Newall], Madingley Rise, Cambridge, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Newall; Hugh Frank (1857-1944) British astrophysicist and educational benefactor |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 6 May 1897 |
Description | There are many difficulties about 3O2 and 2O3, but there is also the phosphorescence and the bright lines to be faced. He forgot to put an important point into his short notice, that after phosphorescence was produced, the gas is not ready to show it again until a discharge in a distant bulb. The observations were made two years ago and he wants to repeat many things, giving one example. He doesn't take to Larmor's nucleus idea; Dixon would not agree but he queries if he has worked at low pressures. He cannot fit Griffiths and Bottomley's cooling of a vessel. |
