| Description | Newall complains that Larmor has set him 'difficult tasks'. He wonders if he can report truthfully on the paper [Joseph Norman Lockyer's Report]. The author has not followed the rules as the other observers, who sent in preliminary reports; that might have been the cheapest way out of a disagreeable task in recommending it for publication 'in extenso'. As it stands, the report would make the expedition look ridiculous. He thinks Lockyer should be made to see this, perhaps by referring it to Abney whom could advise him privately. Newall does not know what to do himself: 'Shall I burn it or lose it?' He wants to help if he can.
