Title | Letter from H F [Hugh Frank] Newall, Giomeia [?], Val d'Aosta, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Newall; Hugh Frank (1857-1944) British astrophysicist and educational benefactor |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 27 July 1908 |
Description | He apologises for not being able to come to the Observatories Committee, the more so since Walker will be present. On agenda item 2, [Gilbert] Walker's report on astronomy states that Poona has undertaken to assist in an International Union for Solar Research scheme. He hopes that Sir Norman Lockyer will not press for special observations to further his own research. On reading the unconfirmed minutes, Newall does not think they represent his own views, as he thought the committee had intentionally decided to drop the special search for the most widened lines, and he would certainly have voted that way, if it had been put to the vote. Lockyer could get much better observations of details of sunspot spectra from the International Union. |
