Title | Letter from H F [Hugh Frank] Newall, Madingley Rise, Cambridge, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Newall; Hugh Frank (1857-1944) British astrophysicist and educational benefactor |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 16 October 1909 |
Description | They have a small club at the Observatory to discuss recently published papers. The next will be [Gavriil Adrianovich] Tikhoff's paper on dispersion of light in space and Newall wonders if Larmor could attend. He was sorry to have missed Larmor when he walked over to Madingley, guessing that it was to pass on sympathy. Bryan's [Cookson] death was a blow to Newall as he was a great companion in work and play. Newall notes his promise and achievements. He wants to consult Larmor on possible assistants. He hopes that Larmor enjoyed his trip to Canada and can rebuke [Charles] Chree. |
