TitleLetter from [Ernest Fox] Nichols, Columbia University in the City of New York, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorNichols; Ernest Fox (1869-1924); American physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date26 May 1907
DescriptionHe has spoken with colleagues about the contents of Larmor's letters, and he does not think any confidence will be violated. They are interested in [Richard Cockburn] Maclaurin after looking him up, and Nichols is writing to [Ernest] Rutherford about him as Larmor suggested. He is also writing to Maclaurin asking him if he would apply on a possible salary of $4,500. He thinks Maclaurin is as good a man as they could get. He weighs other candidates and salaries, with colleagues drawing lines between Maclaurin as a physicist, and Grace as a mathematician. Larmor's substantial help is appreciated by all.
