Title | Letter from J W [John William] Nicholson, Highcliffe, Redcar, Yorkshire, to Joseph Larmor |
Creator | Nicholson; John William (1881-1955); British mathematical physicist |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 3 January 1910 |
Description | He encloses another paper which he would like to proceed with quickly. It deals with the scattering by a sphere but does not enter into doubtful points connected with the shadow. He has written the formulae in accordance with the suggestions of the recent committee but without using solidus for fractions completely. He believes the analysis is 'free of the smallest slip'. The Trinity Fellowship examiners could find no errors in it. The results are very simple, but he thinks important in many ways. Apart from editorial corrections he woudl like its present form to be the final one. He would like to persuade some astronomer to examine the polarisation of the light reflected from cometary particles, to gain clues about their size. |
