TitleLetter from W D [William Davidson] Niven, Royal Naval College, Greenwich, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorNiven; Sir William Davidson (1842-1917); British mathematician
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date21 January 1903
DescriptionNiven is proposing to come to the Royal Society tomorrow and hopes to see Larmor for a conversation. He will be leaving Greenwich next August and someone will be wanted to take his place. He asks Larmor to keep this secret for now. He has mentioned Larmor to the Admiral as a potential successor, but Larmor should not take this too seriously as the Admiral may have someone in mind. The Admiral has asked if Larmor would like to be considered as a candidate and Niven asks if he could make a decision in a week or ten days. If Larmor is interested, Niven would arrange a visit and dinner with the Admiral.
