Title | Letter from W D [William Davidson] Niven, Rosedale, St John's Road, Sidcup, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Niven; Sir William Davidson (1842-1917); British mathematician |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 9 February 1904 |
Description | He was prevented from coming to the Royal Society by the arrival of visitors and he will not be able to come next Thursday, as his brother George has died in Manchester, and he must attend the funeral. It is kind of Larmor to put him up for the Athenaeum. He recalls how Mr Vansittart offered to put him up twenty five years ago, and he cannot recall why he did not accept, unless it was money. He thinks he would not use the club very often and is a member of the Savile at present, but rarely goes there. He thinks it would be the same with the Athenaeum, and only regrets that not being a member deprives him of the chance of seeing Larmor sometimes. |
