Title | Letter from William Ridgeway, Flendyshe, Fen Ditton, Cambridge, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Ridgeway; Sir William (1853-1926); Irish classical scholar |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 9 June 1915 |
Description | Ridgeway has been charged by the Master of Caius with improper use of information received from a member of Senate Council. He said that Larmor had mentioned a conversation with Ridgeway on an offer of Government money for the University. Ridgeway described the Master [Hugh Kerr Anderson] as 'hysterical' and states that he had not heard of the matter from Larmor, nor would he make use of any private conversation. He relates a conversation he had with Whibley, whom he has seen subsequently and Whibley approved of his use of that conversation. As Larmor is one of his oldest friends, he hopes that he does not think Ridgeway guilty of using anything said in confidence, and in any event they discuss the Government grant. He describes his interaction with the Master in more detail, and his own speech, asking Larmor to correct his statement at next Council. |
