Title | Letter from Henry E [Enfield] Roscoe, Woodcote Lodge, West Horsley, Leatherhead, to J [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Roscoe; Sir Henry Enfield (1833-1915); British chemist |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 4 March 1915 |
Description | He returns the pathetic letter [from Archibald Geikie] and he is to be pitied. Roscoe never saw James Geikie and asks for a description, saying how unusual it was for two brothers to become distinguished geologists. He wonders if Karl Pearson could trace some peculiarity of their forebears or whether the Edinburgh School of Geology was responsible. He advises Larmor to wait until he is eighty-two, as he is, before becoming low spirited about loss of friends; but there is consolation in making new ones. |
