TitleLetter from E [Ernest] Rutherford, McGill University, Montreal, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorRutherford; Ernest; Baron Rutherford of Nelson (1871-1937); New Zealand physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date12 October 1904
DescriptionHe returns the corrected proof of his Royal Society paper ['The succession of changes in radioactive bodies'] and thanks Larmor for editing it. He has made some changes and finds that an illustration was drawn wrongly in the figure he sent. He encloses the corrected figure [not present]. He enquires after a paper sent in by Dr [Howard Turner] Barnes 'On the critical velocity of flow...', via Osborne Reynolds, of which nothing has been heard. Rutherford has returned from the International Congress of Arts and Sciences at St. Louis and he reports briefly on this. Larmor will see a paper of Rutherford's in the Philosophical Magazine soon, and he refers to a paper by [Friedrich] Paschen on the heating effect of gamma rays, which is remarkable, if true: 'it leaves the nature of these rays an undoubted mystery'.
