| Description | He encloses a drawing [MS/663/1/40] of a curious x-ray effect obtained by Dr. [Max von] Laue in Munich. It is claimed as a diffraction effect due to the regular arrangement of molecules in space. It is necessary that the crystal is cut accurately to the axis; in the letter he received zincblende and copper sulphate were mentioned. Bragg has some zincblende is will try the experiment although he is unsure of how to cut it. If Schuster has any suggestions. It would be interesting to try the penetrating powers of side streams of x-rays, quoting from the letter he has received on the effects of absorption by aluminium and the rays producing spot patterns. He wonders if the rays producing side spots are really rays proceeding in straight lines from within the crystal or sections of some loci by the photographic plate. 'It all seems most mysterious'. |
