| Creator | Oben; Warner (fl.1743); attorney |
| Recipient | Folkes; Martin (1690 - 1754); antiquary and natural philosopher |
| Date | 7 January 1743 |
| Description | Oben sends this letter with John Thomson, his former clerk, along with some papers to be delivered to Folkes for his opinion. The papers concern suggested improvements to Dr Allen's invention for navigating a ship in a calm, and to make navigation better and safer in all weathers. Also a new method for reducing the fuel needed for a water raising engine. He will make his ideas public if Folkes approves them and asks how best to do this to avoid any advantage being given to the enemy, as it is war time. Otherwise he asks they be kept confidential. Oben is an attorney who has shared his ideas in the hope of being "as serviceeable as I can to mankind in general". |
