| Description | He gives thanks for the invitation to town but his condition will not permit him to nominate an exact time. He took the 'celebrated Ward’s Pill' yesterday and will repeat it, but he can only plan after 5 January provided the second and third doses give relief. He relates a family tradition concerning his uncle, Thomas Challis, who was visited by the ghost of an old woman while at the Fountain Tavern in Bury. Mrs Wells had died that very night. She predicted the hour of Challis's death, which came to pass. Wherever his correspondent's father chooses to place this account, Challis hopes 'he will defend my character against any Monkish imputation'.
