Title | Letter from William Folkes, Newton, to Martin Folkes, Queen Square, near Ormond Street, London |
Creator | Folkes; William (c 1700 - 1773) |
Recipient | Folkes; Martin (1690 - 1754); antiquary and natural philosopher |
Date | 11 August 1742 |
Description | Giving thanks for a letter and noting that he has heard from the Duke of Montagu, presently at Brompton, that Folkes and his daughter '['my niece'] are both well. He congratulates his brother on behalf of his wife and himself for the honour conferred by the French Academy. He has also heard via the Duke and Mr. Hill that Folkes has been in town for some time and that the Duke has invited him to visit. He would have much less company than at Goodwood. Folkes has been absent for so long that William hopes he will accept until the [Royal] Society meets, as there will be few of his acquaintances in London. All are in good health. |
