| Description | Glover was overheard by Mr Richardson in a coffee house discussing Folkes opinion of 'the dipsuted text of John in the famous Greek m.s.of the Vatican', which opinion disagreed with a previous report by Richardson. Glover is concerned that an agrieved Richardson may have written to Folkes on the subject disputing Glover's account of Richardson's report as false. He apologises to Folkes for troubling him and for being unguarded in his conversation but assures him he only spoke the truth of what he had disicussed with Folkes himself some years previously. He recalls being at Folkes' house laughing over 'Dr Clarke's ridiculous solution of his mistake' and Richardson insisting on it as truth. Glover also recalls Folkes later informing him and Mr Graham that the disputed text was not present in the manuscipt and never had been, after Folkes visited the vatican himself to examine the manuscript. He is sure that Folkes had already communicated the same to Richardson. He believes that Folkes advised Richardson to drop his report as a mistake and that as Richardson had never committed it to writing he was 'not answerable for the truth of it'. |
