| Description | O'Brien was sorry to see from Wayland's letter of 2 October that he had the impression that O'Brien was unwilling to study Wayland's collection of artefacts. He had taken it for granted that he was to do this. He does not recall Wayland's many requests to study the material. Had Wayland done so, O'Brien's response would have been that it was impossible until they had been in the field themselves, to compare their respective notes and materials. He realises that a complete study of the Wayland collection would take months, which is why his initial suggestion was to spend a few days making a representative selection, since Wayland proposed to break up the collection: but now Wayland has decided how the collection would be divided, the matter is settled. He hopes that this misunderstanding will not effect their friendly relations.
