TitleLetter, Edward James Wayland, the Geological Survey of Uganda, P.O.Box 9, Entebbe, to Percy George Hamnall Boswell
Date20 September 1936
DescriptionIt is so long since he heard from Boswell that he wonders if remarks about his research student caused offence. They were his own private views and those of his colleagues as well. In case no offence was given and if Boswell is still interested in East African geology, he gives news of the Human Trypanosomiosis Institute building. He thought he had won, but a yellow fever scare meant that Medical grabbed the building with a long research programme. Better than that however, £20,400 is being dedicated to building new laboratory, office and accommodation for the Geological Survey, likely near Kampala, with £45,000 over his present votes for a special investigation. It is possible that the Secretary of State will turn the thing down. If it goes ahead, Wayland will have the chance to start the Survey on its new footing before he leaves for good. The whole position will be reconsidered after the expiration of five years. O'Brien intends to come out again, but he will not be allowed such freedom as before.
