Title | Letter from R [Richard] Chenevix, Montjeron, to [Charles] Hatchett |
Creator | Chenevix; Richard (1774-1830); Irish chemist and mineralogist |
Recipient | Hatchett; Charles (1765-1847); British chemist |
Date | 6 June [1820] |
Description | Chenevix has received Hatchett's money and has sent the case of Rivesalte. Once [Humphry] Davy heard of proceedings at the Royal Society and 'the pretensions of D[avies] Gilbert' he set off for London. Chenevix believes that Banks was wrong to nominate his successor as President and hopes that Lord Spencer may be chosen. Gilbert is not quite respectable enough. Chenevix suspects that Davy has ambitions to become President but he is not suited to the place. Sends a list of his forthcoming publications to Hatchett intended to demonstrate that England was securing progress while keeping enemies at bay. Asks Hatchett to suggest of key persons, inventions or other contributions since 1789 which would support his case. Notes Brande's desire to have a French contributor to his transactions. |
