| Description | Braun relates how his primary difficulties in 1901 were technical ones. He finally resolved to make experiments with a vacuum of 3mm. Despite his efforts this was a failure. He followed Boys's advice in making deflection observations but the results were perplexing. He gives an account of these, with sketches. The two better observations gave G=5.524. Finally he made an observation using the oscillation method that he thought was better - G=5.5225 + or - 0.005. A small correction would put the value even nearer to 5.527. He intends to go for a hydropathic cure and Boys should write to him in Stirie. He will continue upon his return. Gives conjectures on why the Geissler air pump may not have performed well. |
