| Description | Permitting the bearer 'to pass without molestation', issued at Madras [Chennai], India, to Lieutenant Henry Kater of H.M 12th Regiment of Foot. The document allowed the bearer to travel to the Malabar Coast, 'On a geographical Survey in the Peninsula'. It describes Kater's appearance at that time: aged 25 years, 5 foot 7 inches tall, and with light coloured hair and eyes.
