DescriptionHe has lately been engaged in private business and has not replied to Kater's communication. He will gladly give the length of chain to Kater, but its length has not be redetermined. It has been carefully preserved, but its length cannot be relied upon absolutely. He gives an account of Mr [Jesse] Ramsden laying the chain between two brass points in the purbeck stone of the Duke of Richmond's wharf [?] which Mudge attended with Mr. Dalby, and this was carefully done.
