Title | Letter from [Jean Félix] Gambart, Boulogne sur mer, to Henry Kater, 1 Union Place, Regent's Park, London |
Creator | Gambart; Jean-Félix Adolphe (1800-1836); French astronomer |
Recipient | Kater; Henry (1777-1835); British geodicist and metrologist |
Date | 13 May 1822 |
Description | Concerning a sextant of Stancliffe, which the owner sold for 275 francs, although Gambart was determined to offer 300 francs or more. He thanks Kater for providing the information he needed. He also thanks him for his trouble in having an artificial horizon made for him by Dollond. When this is completed, he asks Kater to indicate the price of the instrument, and he will be reimbursed with a money order drawn in London. He asks about using water to reflect the solar image and if it is necessary to cover the vase with fine gauze, to ensure the stillness of the water. He refers to a letter from Arago concerning the Bureau of Longitude. |
