Title | Letter from Humphry Davy, to 'My dear Sir' [Henry Kater] |
Creator | Davy; Sir Humphry, baronet (1778-1829); British chemist and inventor |
Date | no date [1820?] |
Description | He has received a letter from Arago. It is proposed that two of their principal astronomers should co-operate in measuring the distance between Calais and Dover. Davy thinks they should delegate two men of science to meet them. The work would interest the Admiralty and the Board of Ordnance and therefore Lord Melville would furnish funds. He hopes that Kater would consent to act as one commissioner. Dr. [William Hyde] Wollason writes that Kater is going out of town and Davy would like to see him before he goes. |
