Title | Letter from Peter Barlow, Woolwich, to 'Dear Sir' [Henry Kater] |
Creator | Barlow; Peter (1776-1862); British mathematician and physicist |
Recipient | Kater; Henry (1777-1835); British geodicist and metrologist |
Date | 1 December 1827 |
Description | He sends the letter which he had intended to lay before the Board of Longitude, but he has delayed as he was unable to show the instruments to Board members. He hopes that Kater and others will have seen their performance before the next meeting, making allowance for the coarseness of the construction. The letter should be regarded as a private communication at present. Mr [James] South has the 3-inch instrument and has offered to take the 6-inch one [telescope?], despite it being heavy and the stand cumbersome. He discusses the problems of this, caused by many changes, and he was afraid it would disfigure York Gate. |
