Title | 'Muckenheim and Mander' correspondence, file of M S Barltett |
Date | 1984-1998 |
Description | File of correspondence between M S Bartlett and Professor Wolfgang Muckenheim and Peter Mander.
Bartlett's correspondence with Muckenheim comprises friendly, wide-ranging discussion and sharing of knowledge across different scientific disciplines.Muckenheim is a physicist. Their discussions cover the physics of spin, relativity theory, Bell's spaceship paradox, trials and events in probability, the Petersburg problem as well as recommendations and thoughts on their reading (such as Hawking's 'A brief history of time', Anandan 'The geometric phase', Ian Stewart's 'Does God play dice - the mathematics of chaos'). They maintained a long-running correspondence, with letters spanning 1980s to 1990s. For the most part, only Muckenheim's letters are included, although there are some copies of Bartlett's responses.
The file also includes: Correspondence with Arthur A Rayner of University of Natal, who is writing 'a historical paper on the "divorce" of least squares and analysis of variance in fisher's time" and seeks assistance from Bartlett, 1987. Letters to Professor Peter Whittle FRS, Walter Bodmer FRS, requests for a paper and to act as a referee, 1995 Correspondence with Peter Mander about his essay on the event interpretation of light, 1986
Also includes hand-written draft which appears to be an article on Yates and Fisher. |
