Director of the Nuffield Insititute of Comparative Medicine (1964 to 1980) and Director of Science to the Zoological Society (1966 to 1980). He is a member of the Editorial Board, Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene; a member of the Steering Committee on the chemotherapy of Malaria WHO Special programee; Chairman of the Royal Society Animal Guidelines Steering Committee; and consultant, the Wellcome Trust. He was director of the Wellcome Museum, of Medical Science from 1983 to 1985.
