Chenevix family arrived in Ireland from France in 1685 as a result of the persecution of the Huguenots; studied chemistry at Glasgow under Professor Joseph Black; returned to France; wrote an important paper on the new chemical nomenclature; contributed papers to French Chemical journals; published his first paper on the analysis of an ore of the metal lead (1801); discovered Niobium (1802) and worked at Palladium and Platinum erroneously asserting that Palladium was an alloy of Platinum and Mercury; lived in Paris for some time; wrote dramas
