Activity | Career: Went to America in 1807, was a British Commisssioner to determine the Maine-New Brunswick boundary in 1839 (along with Richard Zachariah Mudge) and was British Consul at Havre until his death. As consul, he was also instrumental in bringing Louis Philippe of France to England in 1848. He wrote several books about American travel, a national railway system in Britain, and the Canadian-American boundary issue. Memberships: FGS
