Title | Copy letter from Michael Foster, to the Honorary Secretaries, Society of Medical Officers of Health |
Date | 26 January 1887 |
Description | The Secretaries letter of 18 December 1886 concerning the establishment of a laboratory for carrying on bacteriological and allied researches was laid before the President and Council of the Royal Society at their last meeting. They were of the opinion that an adequately equipped Laboratory would be conducive to the advancement of an important branch of science, but their judgement on any particular scheme must in large part depend upon the details of its constitution and government. Should the Royal College of Surgeons decide to devote a large portion of the sum lately bequeathed to them by the late Sir [William James] Erasmus Wilson to the building and furnishing of such a laboratory, the object desired by the Society of Medical Officers of Health would in a large measure be secured. |
