Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Richard Tetley Glazebrook, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 19 June 1896 |
Description | In reply to Glazebrook's letter of the 17th, Mr [John Sealy Edward] Townsend and Mr [John Alexander] McClelland's papers had both been accepted by the Secretary and Harrison simply sent their names for Glazebrook's information. Harrison is now sending Townsend's paper and having obtained the concurrence of the Secretary as per Standing Order 41, he has sent on [M F] Osmond and [William Chandler] Roberts-Austen's paper to Mr Heycock with a referee's letter.
Discusses the history of Baily's paper and the involvement of Professor [William Edward] Ayrton and Professor [James Alfred] Ewing. There seems to be some question whether the two written opinions required on a paper under the Standing Order must be independent, but Dr [Michael] Foster seems to think that they need not be and the fact of the two referees being commonly members of the Sectional Committee, who had conferred together in Committee, seems to point to the same conclusion. Glazebrook may like to consider whether it is worth while raising this point at the next meeting of his Committee [Physical and Chemical]. |
