| Description | The Kew Observatory Committee of the Royal Society have made arrangements to send one of their staff, Dr J A Harker, in the course of the next few weeks, to the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures at Sevres, to make observations on high temperature thermometers. Harker will need to take with him some heavy but delicate apparatus and it is extremely desirable that this should not in any way be disturbed until he reaches his destination. It would therefore be of great advantage if the apparatus could enter France without being subjected to the usual customs examination, and if possible, free from customs duties.
The Secretary hopes that Her Majesty's Government will be willing to take steps to secure the privileges as it has done on former occassions of the despatch by the Royal Society of observing parties to foreign countries. |
