Title | Copy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to [Professor F] Klein |
Date | 29 January 1899 |
Description | Many thanks for your letter. Has communicated the contents to Foster and [?]. Delighted to hear that the prospect of the Catalogue are more hopeulf in Germany.
A Mr Shipley of Cambridge attended the celebration of the centenary of the Imperial Medical Adacemy of Medicine at St Petersburg on December 28th. He takes a great deal of interest in the catalogue. In consequence of the visit, formal communications and Rucker's letter to Rykatcheff, Mr Shipley says that the Academy wishes Mr F T Koppen of the Imperial Library to represent them on the International Committee.
Is writing to Rykatcheff to say that a formal communication of this is needed and do not want to clash with the wishes of the Russian government. Also heard from Poincare lately asking for information as to how matters were progressing and Rucker wrote to him fully. Regarding the cartel, the news is even better. The Russian Academy has sent a formal letter approving the scheme and stating that the Academy waits anxiously for further information. An American friend of Foster, Dr Minot, has also written to say that they have heard with much interest of the scheme in America and that he is secretary of a trust fund devoted to International purposes. Minot thinks that he and his co-trustees would be willing to devote some or all of these funds to initial expenses of the scheme. |
